Energy Efficient Homes

Energy efficiency is very important to Hillstone Homes. “Green", or "Environmentally Friendly", are popular terms used to describe homes that are energy efficient. These homes are built to use less energy and provide environmentally clean living structures. We, at Hillstone Homes, follow the HERS system, the industry standard and a nationally recognized system for determining the energy efficiency of a home. HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. It is based upon the International Conservation Code of 2006, or ICC 2006 energy rating system. A rating of 100 is the base rating for a house that meets the energy code. The lower the number, the better the rating. Hillstone Homes offers quality products that meet or even exceed building codes. We also offer insulation packages that cause our homes to outperform building codes. With our insulation packages, the HERS ratings on our homes go as low as the high 50’s to the mid 60’s, depending on the size of the home and the chosen insulation package. We are thrilled to be able to offer homes with these outstanding ratings. Regardless of the insulation package you choose, even the standard home we build will be energy efficient. It's the Hillstone way!

Energy Star

Another energy building standard is Energy Star®. This system was developed by the U.S. Government to rate the energy efficiency of a home. To meet this standard, a home has to be built to all Energy Star's® requirements. At Hillstone Homes, we build our houses to meet and surpass them. In order to get an Energy Star® certificate on a home, we have an independent certified company inspect the home at several key points during construction, plus have a “blower door” inspection at the completion of building. These tests are conducted on all our homes and we present every buyer with an Energy Star® certificate when they move in.

HVAC System

All of the energy efficiency features we use are standard in our homes. The only options we offer to make your home more energy efficient are our insulation packages and upgraded SEER ratings on your HVAC system. HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. Our homes have a 14 SEER HVAC system as standard. However, you can upgrade your home to a higher SEER system if you desire.

Up to 80% of the cool air in the summer, or warm air in the winter, escapes through the windows, doors and ceiling of your home. Therefore it is important to have well sealed, energy efficient windows and doors and adequate insulation in the ceiling of the home. Our homes feature vinyl window frames with Low E3 coated windows. Our exterior doors are insulating doors. We make sure our windows and doors are sealed properly.

The Real Bonus

A real bonus our buyers obtain is that Hillstone Homes is an Environments For Living® (EFL®) member. This means we build our homes above Energy Star® standards and have EFL® inspect our homes. Once complete, our buyers get an EFL® certificate which guarantees the heating and cooling bills for the first three years of their home ownership.
